CIMIC Group’s mineral processing company, Sedgman, has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract at the Byerwen Coal Mine in Central Queensland.

The Byerwen mine site is located 20km west of Glenden in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Poised to generate revenue of US$110 ($155) million for CIMIC Group, the contract signals a continued long-standing relationship between the infrastructure, mining, services and public private partnerships group and QCoal Group.

The EPC contract will deliver an expansion on the first phase of the project, which Sedgman was awarded in February 2018, and includes the duplication of the existing coal handling and processing plant.

“We are pleased to continue our strong, long-term relationship with QCoal and look forward to assisting with the expansion of the Byerwen mine in a timeframe that optimises QCoal’s benefit,” Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said.

Early work has commenced and the project will conclude in early 2020.
