Established as a mining division affiliate of the Liebherr Group in Adelaide in 1981, Liebherr Australia has a proud history of supplying to and supporting the Australian mining industry.

Nearly 40 years on, Liebherr Australia now boasts seven divisions, supplying original equipment manufacturer (OEM) equipment across the construction and mining industries, and has 16 branches across Australia and New Zealand.

Over the past decades, and particularly over the past 25 years, Australia has been the field test area for many of Liebherr Mining’s latest and greatest products.

One of these products, the R 996 600-tonne hydraulic excavator, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2020. The excavator, now the R 996B, was first introduced into Australia in a field validation test and has since become one of the most highly regarded machines within Liebherr’s mining equipment portfolio.

Another product that has more recently been tested on Australian soil was Liebherr’s first foray into the 70-tonne class mining dozer. The Liebherr PR 776 was tested for two years under harsh mining conditions in New South Wales before the product was officially launched into serial production in 2017.

Liebherr Australia has also experienced growth and success in its bucket manufacturing facilities, with the facility at the Adelaide head office celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020, and recently hitting a major milestone – 500 buckets manufactured in Australia.

On the human resources side of the equation, the company employs more than 570 people directly within its mining division, with seven current employees having recently celebrated 25 years with the company.

Liebherr Australia is focused on contributing to the next generation of workers as well, with the introduction of its apprentice program set for 2020.

The company will officially open the Adelaide-based National Technical Training Centre to keep employees and customers up to date with technological advances within the industry, such as trials of its flexible autonomous solution and its electric excavator range, launched at the Bauma Trade Show 2019.

Liebherr Mining will announce its latest technological advances at the MINExpo International trade show in September 2020.
